Frequently Asked Question:
Who Was Jesus Christ?
By William Pelrine Jr.
Who Jesus Christ is is a question frequently asked by many people in the world. Many people do not come from Christian homes and have never been told who this Jesus is if they have ever heard of Him at all.
Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem, Israel approximately 2001 years ago. Most of what we know about Him was written in what are called the gospels and epistles in The Holy Bible also known as The New Testament. These writings are considered by The Church to be sacred scripture.
According to these gospels, Jesus was born by a woman by the name of Mary who conceived Him by the power of The Holy Spirit, which is the same spirit which, according to The Holy Bible, created the universe and all that is in it.
Jesus said, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." (John 10: 10b) I have heard it said that is the sole reason He came to earth.
Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14: 6)
Studying His life shows us that there is a God who loves us and understands what we’re going through. Being the only begotten Son of God, "in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form." (Col. 2: 9)
He was full of the Holy Spirit of God, which is the spirit I told you earlier impregnated His mother so as to give Him birth.
He said that we too could have this Holy Spirit. The name of The Holy Spirit is Jesus Christ. This Holy Spirit is eternal. When we have The Holy Spirit of God we have eternal life. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3: 16)
During Jesus’ life He performed many miracles. He walked on water. He healed every manner of sickness and disease. "Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written." (John 21: 25)
He also died on the cross so that our sins would be forgiven; a most cursed death. By believing in Him we can have the righteousness of God.
Jesus preached repentance. He said, "Repent for the kingdom of heaven is near." (Mt. 4: 17) Repent means to turn from your sins and turn to God.
If you would like to find out more about the life of Jesus Christ, I suggest you get a copy of The Holy Bible. Bibles are obtainable in most any book store for as little as five or six dollars. I suggest you first read The Gospel According to John in The New Testament and The Acts of the Apostles and the epistles (which follow The Acts of the Apostles) before you read The Holy Bible from the beginning. This will give you a good idea of a lot about Him and His followers.
