Essay
Father's Day
By William Pelrine Jr.
How would you like to have a father
that’s perfect in every way? Wouldn’t that be neat! How about a father
that’s always there for you? When you need advice or someone to talk to he’s
right there with you at all times. How about a father who is wise in every way
and who would never steer you wrong? How would you like to have a father who
created the universe and has a plan for everything and everyone in it? How would
you like to have a father who, “If we ask anything according to his will he
hears us, and if we know that he hears us, we know that we have what we asked of
him.”(1)
How would you like to have a father who is
all-powerful? How about a father who knows everything? How about a father who
knows what’s on your heart without you having to tell him? How would you like
to have a father who is everywhere all at the same time and has the power to
give you anything your little heart desires?
Aw, you peeked. You saw that scripture
verse. You know I’m not talking about an earthly father. I’m talking about
someone that created your earthly father. I’m talking about someone who
created my earthly father. I’m talking about the Father I worship; the Father
I have a personal relationship with which no one else has. I’m talking about
God the Father…Abba.
Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth
and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”(2)
I have come to know God the Father in a personal way not only through the
scriptures, but also through prayer and meditation. Perhaps you could too. This
Father’s Day lets not just honor our earthly fathers, but lets also honor our
heavenly Father.
